Meet Edith

Edith Grossman bietet als Jolanthe die vibrierende Sinnlichkeit einer Wagner-Venus auf...” (Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung), American mezzo-soprano, Edith Grossman is a versatile performer with a foot firmly planted in both the German and American opera scenes. Currently engaged as a lyric mezzo in the ensemble with Oper Wuppertal, Edith has earned acclaim with role debuts including Hänsel (Hänsel und Gretel), Der Page (Salome), and Jolanthe (Der Wald). 

Known for both her prowess in opera and musical theater, Edith has a natural affinity for new, american works. Her “vivid portrayal” (Opera Today) of Rachel in Jake Heggie and Gene Sheer’s premiere of If I Were You led to a residency at Utah Opera, where she made her company debut in Poulenc’s difficult one-woman opera La Voix Humaine and her role debut as the Stewardess in Jonathan Dove’s Flight. She went on to make her role debut as Rosina in Il barbiere di Siviglia with Kenosha Opera Festival and as Cherubino in Le Nozze di Figaro with Fargo Moorhead Opera before moving to Germany to debut the role of Mrs. X.E. in Angel’s Bone which toured in Amsterdam shortly after its positive reception in Wuppertal.

Singing regularly on the competition circuit both internationally and in the USA, Edith has recently been recognized and placed in competitions including The 62nd Tenor Viñas Competition, The Jensen Foundation Competition, Monte-Carlo Voice Masters Competition, the Elizabeth Connell Prize, Pasadena Vocal Competition, Partners for the Arts National Opera Competition, and the Mildred Miller International Vocal Competition.

Edith looks forward to making two role debuts in the coming months as Siebel in Faust and Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni.
